Describe what makes your business unique, what your customers love about your business?
"The Soap Exchange was Vancouver Islands very first refill store, and we have been operating for nearly 30 years. It was started with three goals in mind – to be kind to the earth, kind to our bodies, and kind to one’s budget! We have a wide demographic of customers that have been supporting us for years, some even decades, and we believe it is because we are honest about what we do. We have always been transparent with our product and policies, and stand behind our goods. It has earned their confidence, and we are grateful for each and every person who walks through our doors!"
Describe your primary business and services?
"As a refillery, our main purpose is to reduce packaging waste. We can refill any clean and dry bottle or container, and encourage customers to bring in packaging that they already have, even if it is from other brands or stores – waste not, want not! We also provide ready made product in-store, on which we charge a refundable deposit to encourage customers to bring it back for refill, or return for reuse!
The product selection that we have is all 100% biodegradable, and we have a wide variety of products that are scent free, and great for those with sensitive skin. There is no unnecessary filler in our products either, so whether it is concentrated, or ready to use, a little goes a long way. This helps customers save money while being kinder to the earth as well."
What is the most important thing you want customers to know about your business?
"We want our customers to know that we appreciate each and every one of them, and always welcome questions. Our goal is to get the right product in your hands for the task at hand, and share our wealth of information with you. We want our customers to feel confident about their choice, and will endeavor to do whatever it takes to achieve that!
During our operation, we have diverted over 800,000 bottles and containers from the waste and recycling streams. That’s a lot of plastic! We also ensure that the 20L pails we get our bulk product in are sent back to the manufacturer for reuse, so when we say that we’re committed to refilling and reusing, we mean it!"
What does supporting organic and fair trade products mean to you and your business?
"There are a lot of product choices out there, many of which are not as healthy as they seem. Greenwashing is a problem, but making conscious choices to support organic products, helps to ensure that the best ingredients possible are used. Fair trade is an important practice in business overall because it ensures that all people who are involved in the supply chain are paid well and treated fairly. We all deserve a good quality of life!"

We love partnering with other local brands with similar ethics and visions, so working with BCB feels like a natural choice for us. They have a great product, excellent communication and vendor support, and fun people to work with!
